THE FINAL WORD!

Thursday January 25, 2024
LEICESTER boss Stewart Dickson has had his final say on the events of the 2023 season.

Dickson has talked in-depth about the Watling JCB Lions’ first year back in the Premiership in the annual Speedway Star Track Review, which features in this week’s issue.

All the key moments of the campaign are covered, including the Lions’ successful run of form and then the drama of team changes and the eventual gut-wrenching closing night at Peterborough.

Dickson said: “You can look at last year and say fifth place was Leicester’s best finish in the top league, but for me that’s not an achievement.

“I don’t want to class it as a year of failure, but the bottom line is that we never qualified for what we set out to do, so from that point of view we came up a bit short collectively.

“But rather than talking just about play-offs, when you look at the season as a whole we had some great meetings at Leicester, with some terrific racing and we took some good scalps.”
